Malta completely stole my heart. This small Mediterranean island is full of charm, history and breathtaking coastal views. Whether you love exploring new cultures, relaxing by the sea or chasing sunsets, Malta has something for every type of traveller.
During my visit, I discovered beautiful places, peaceful views and a few surprises along the way. Here are the experiences that made my trip to Malta truly memorable.

1. Unwind at St George’s Bay
Start your Malta adventure at St George’s Bay, where soft golden sand meets turquoise water. It’s peaceful and perfect for a relaxing beach day. Take a swim, enjoy the sunshine or sit back and listen to the waves. There are cafés nearby where you can grab a fresh juice or a light meal with a view of the sea.

2. Stroll Around Spinola Bay
After some beach time, take a walk over to Spinola Bay, one of Malta’s prettiest and most photographed spots. The colourful fishing boats, calm waters and lively waterfront make it a great place to unwind. In the evening, the area lights up beautifully and you can enjoy a cosy dinner or a peaceful walk by the water.

3. Explore Valletta’s Charm
Malta’s capital Valletta is full of character and history. Wander through its narrow streets lined with traditional balconies and local shops. Stop by the Upper Barrakka Gardens for incredible panoramic views of the Grand Harbour, especially at sunset. If you visit around midday, you can catch the traditional cannon firing from the Saluting Battery below.

4. Step Back in Time in Mdina
Mdina, Malta’s old capital, is known as the Silent City. Its calm streets and old stone buildings make it one of the most peaceful places on the island. Take your time exploring the narrow alleys and enjoy the stunning views from the city walls. Mdina has a timeless charm that feels like stepping back into history.

5. Experience the Blue Grotto
The Blue Grotto is one of Malta’s most famous natural wonders. The sea here glows in beautiful shades of blue when the sunlight hits the water. You can take a short boat ride to explore the sea caves up close or simply enjoy the breathtaking view from the lookout point above. Even without going on the boat, it’s worth visiting for the scenery and peaceful atmosphere.

6. Take a Day Trip to Gozo
A trip to Gozo is an absolute must when visiting Malta. You can catch the ferry from Ċirkewwa, at the northern tip of the island. The ride takes around 25 minutes and brings you straight into Mġarr Harbour in Gozo. Ferries run regularly throughout the day and you can go on foot or take your car across if you prefer exploring at your own pace.
Once you arrive, the Hop-On Hop-Off bus is a great way to see the whole island without the stress of driving. It stops at all the main attractions and gives you plenty of time to explore each spot.
One place you shouldn’t miss is the Gozo Salt Pans. The view of the salt pools stretched along the coastline is amazing, especially when the sunlight reflects on the water. It’s calm, unique and perfect for photos.
If you want to make the most of your day, you can also book a private boat tour that takes you from Malta to Comino’s Blue Lagoon and then on to Gozo. Just leave early in the morning so you can enjoy both islands at a relaxed pace.

7. Take a Traditional Boat Ride to the Three Cities
Instead of the big harbour cruise, I took a small local boat ride from Valletta to the Three Cities, and it was one of my favourite moments. The trip costs around €2 each way, and you can hop on from the Valletta Waterfront.
The short ride gives you a peaceful view of the harbour and the old stone fortifications. Once you reach the other side, you can explore the Three Cities — Birgu, Senglea and Cospicua. Each one has its own charm, with narrow streets, colourful doors and quiet waterfront paths. It’s a simple and authentic experience that gives you a real feel for local Maltese life.

9. Hike Malta’s Coastal Trails
If you enjoy nature and the outdoors, Malta’s coastline is full of scenic hiking trails. The Malta Coastal Walk offers incredible views of cliffs, coves and the open sea. It’s peaceful, refreshing and a great way to see a quieter side of the island. Don’t forget your camera — the views are unforgettable.
Final Thoughts
Malta might be small, but it’s full of beauty, history and warm hospitality. As a Muslim traveller, I loved exploring its beaches, viewpoints and charming cities, though halal food options were limited. With a bit of planning, it’s still a destination that leaves a lasting impression.
If you’re looking for sunshine, sea views and a calm, friendly atmosphere, Malta is a place worth experiencing at least once.
